Seminar: Green Home Design

We had to close registration to our Green Home Seminar in Newbury (Mt. Sunapee), NH this past weekend (with 81 in attendance)– this is a great sign for our economy! We met several couples planning to build a new energy efficient home who want to start the home design process now so they can be ready to build. We had folks come from Maine, Brooklyn, NY, and even had a guest from California! The feedback has been wonderful and everyone has given the seminar great reviews.

NH Architect Jeremy Bonin presented the topic "Green Home Design", discussing sustainability, the guiding principles of green home design, the phases of design, and passive green design. Popular topics in his presentation were massing, solar orientation, and site factors that affect a home design.

Our co-host, Jay Tucker, and Independent Representative for Timberpeg, presented "Timber Framing & SIP Panels". In the timber frame portion of his presentation, Jay described the different types of timber frame systems available and wood species, showed various options, and of course, beautiful pictures. He then explained the benefits of structural insulated panel enclosure systems for timber frames, their energy efficiency and R-Values and ease of installation.

Guests had a lot of questions for Bob Partridge, of Partridge Family Heating, on geothermal heating systems. Bob explained the different systems available, site requirements, and cost variables for the various systems. Bob was able to answer more questions and show visitors the geo-exchange system in the Timberpeg home we toured after the seminar.

If you are planning to build a new energy efficient home and are overwhelmed with the amount of information available on green building, make plans to attend one of our
green events or visit us at a home show (you can also give us a call or send an email!) We’ll help you design a home plan that meets your goals for green living while saving you money in energy bills, providing you with a substantial return on your investment, and increasing the value of your home.
